back from San Francisco–BBE2 (best birthday ever part II)

We flew in to San Francisco on Saturday afternoon, and landed just in time to hop in a cab, drop our bags at the hotel, and make it to the Giants game. Great seats (the lovely is a big fan of stubhub.com).

While the Giants lost, it was a great trip back home and being at the ballpark felt great. Although, the fact that any remaining evidence of Barry Bonds playing there has all but been taken away did leave us wanting a little more. However, the occasional chant from the crowd, "we want Bonds" did bring smiles to our faces.

After the game, we walked around a bit and ended up at the Ferry Building. For years it remained in disrepair, but has been converted into this great food and wine retail area. When in the SF you definitely need to stop off there and visit their wine bar. And, if you would like to see some food and wine antiques Culinaire is a few doors down (they do have corkscrews).

Dinner was at Kuleto’s, and the food was great (Mount Veeder Cabernet the wine of choice).

Sunday morning we went for a morning run–just shy of 6 miles–to Golden Gate Park, where we meandered around a bit. And, then decided to walk the 6 miles back. We figured we would find lunch along the way, but ended up eating near our hotel (apparently wine bars–where we are prone to eat–aren’t open that early on a Sunday).

A quick shower and change of clothes, and we started walking again–this time to the ball park for another game. We had even better seats, and the Giants won!!!!

The game was followed by a short two hour walk around the city, with a brief stop off at wine bar for a glass and a nosh. Dinner was at Boulevard–truly one of the best restaurants in the city!

Monday/Tuesday we flew from SF to LA to visit with family, and celebrate a good friend’s retirement. And, now… I am back. A great couple of days spent with the lovely to celebrate my b-day. We are already discussing next year’s plans…henceforth (BBE3).
