At last year’s JFO, I managed to pick up a small collection of various openers. And, while some had corkscrews attached, some didn’t. One of these was Elgin Edgar Wood’s 1890 patent.

While the patent drawing (above) does show a corkscrew, the version I had wasn’t missing the corkscrew–it simply was never given one : (

As luck would have it, I finally have managed to pick up the corkscrew attached version (hidden amongst some spatulas in a lot on eBay). A welcome addition to the American corkscrew patent collection!
